Seasonal Makeup Trends and your Wedding Day

Posted 6 June 2019

There are so many decisions when it comes to planning your wedding day and every bride is unique. Even though the choices made come down to the individual couple and their style and personality, inspiration can really be drawn from a variety of places and it’s no different with your wedding makeup. One of the things that Brides may want to consider is the latest trends in makeup and the predictions of trends to follow. In this blog I’ll break down some of the trends coming out of the 2019 Spring/Summer collections and perhaps how that can translate to wedding beauty.

Makeup Minimalism - Featured Skin

This trend isn’t really a new one for the catwalks of Europe, however it’s one that certainly isn’t going anywhere soon! Minimalist skin and eyes paired with flesh coloured or bold lips are still featuring heavily and can be a beautiful look for your wedding day. The trick here is to spend a lot of time prepping and caring for the skin so that it really shines through and is the number one feature. Soft neutral eyes with little to no eye liner can be used to give definition to the eye without detracting from the skin. Often the trend here is to avoid mascara but this is your wedding day right so follow Chanel’s lead and apply lashings of mascara with a bright matte lip. Another option is to go with a deep cranberry or deep chilli red (think burgundys and rich, warm reds) if you really want your lip to be the feature of your makeup look. This trend may not be for you if you don’t like a dewy finish to your makeup or if you have freckles that you don’t like to have visible.

Bronzed Summer Skin

My makeup routine currently involves good skin care, brows and a generous dusting of bronzer. I’m loving my matte bronzers at the moment (such as MAC Matte Bronze or the Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer) so I was pretty thrilled to see this trend popping up for 2019. Once again the fresh skin look was everywhere but dustings of bronzer on the eyes and on the cheeks in place of blush were added. Heavy contouring is out, sun-kissed & effortlessly glowing is in! Natural brows or beachy brows were often a feature with this type of look too. This look can definitely work for a Bohemian themed wedding or a for a Bride who is after a really natural yet glowing appearance. Experimenting with Bronzers to see which is your favourite is key. Matte, shimmer, tanned or orange toned, liquid or powder. A simple look still has so many choices for you to be able to make it your own.

Colour Pops

I love colour but so many of us are afraid to use it. Colour doesn’t have to be the ‘entire lid, iridescent colour’ of the 80’s. It can be subtle and introduced as a pop or my personal favourite the monochromatic version where one colour is used to complete the whole makeup look. Beautiful pinks like the header image of this blog, can be used to brighten and slightly define the eye, flush the cheek and add pout to the lips. In the above image I’ve added a soft brown liner and I’ve used a cream highlighter mixed with a lipstick as blush. You can read more about how I created this look HERE. Pink hues are an obvious choice for Brides but watch out for Peaches/soft oranges which are starting to feature heavily in bouquets and of course the catwalks.

Bright & Bold Liner & Lashes

So out of all the top trends to come out of the Spring/Summer collections this is probably my least favourite for wedding makeup but hey, each bride is individual and has the right to wear her makeup however she chooses on her special day! Graphic coloured liner and/or coloured mascara was definitely the focus for fashion houses Valentino and Halpern. Whilst I would probably steer away from bright and bold coloured mascara’s violet hued and burgundy lashes can be quite flattering if this is something you would be keen to wear. If you want to go with a bold coloured liner, try choosing a colour which is complimentary to your eye colour so that the liner makes your eyes pop rather than being the standout feature of your makeup. A bright metallic green winged liner may seem like a good idea now but will you feel that way in 20 years time? If the answer is unequivocally yes, then I say go for it!

So there you have it! Four of the top trends coming out of the 2019 Spring/Summer collections and how you may be able to tailor them for a makeup look for your wedding day. As I said before, if you are someone who is looking for inspiration or needing ideas on what they want for their wedding makeup then maybe there’s something here for you. This is your day. It’s your day to feel like you, the best you. If that means that you want  a traditional soft glam look with neutral colours and a bangin’ set of lashes then that’s beautiful, but if you want skin that looks as though it’s been loved and spoilt, with freckles and bronzer and maybe a gold winged liner or shadow then that will be amazing too. Whatever you choose, find a makeup artist who will let you be you and make you feel confident and beautiful at the same time.
