3 products you NEED in your makeup bag... NOW

Posted 4 September 2019

I love a good beauty buy! I mean, I really LOVE it. I enjoy spending my child free days wandering the aisles of Mecca, testing skincare and makeup, revisiting old favourites and splurging on the IT product of the week. BUT…. There is so much out there, how do you know what you need, what your skin needs and what’s a good buy? By reading my blog!

Once a month, maybe more if the retail gods decide, I’m going to update you on THE products I feel you won’t regret buying. I’ll try not to make it a long, labored blog that you’ll get halfway through and wonder how you can apply that to your makeup cupboard. It will be quick tips on 3 products that I feel will make a difference to your daily routine. Products that I have tried, found easy to use, give incredible results or just do what they damn well say they will.

So, welcome to the “3 products you NEED in your makeup bag now”….. yeah I’ll work on the name!

MAC Fix +We all know the phrase an oldie but a goodie right? Well in the case of MAC Fix + it never rang truer. Yes it’s fantastic for finishing and setting your makeup but there are so many uses for this lil hack in a bottle you’ll be carrying one with you everywhere you go! I use it as a base before every makeup I do. On clean dry skin it smooths and re-texturisers providing the perfect canvas to lay your skincare or makeup on. When applied to a brush prior to picking up shimmery shadows, it intensifies pigment and leaves you with a shine rivaled only by gloss! If you are using shadows to draw or fill your brows, spray the brush with Fix + first and those fine hair strokes will last all day. I also use it on a stiff angled brush to clean up and sharpen winged liners without budging the makeup around the area…. Genius. MAC have just recently released Fix + minis in a range of fruity and calming scents. The smell is to die for and the handy size will mean you are never without your Fix + again.

Mecca Cheek Tint and Highlighting Balm Duo

It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of all things Mecca but when I saw these lil babies pop up in my feed, yes Mecca your Instagram account works, I knew I would be adding them to my kit ASAP. The texture is a lovely, smooth & creamy balm (duh), which glides on skin and builds intensity gradually. You can use your fingers to apply it which is a plus for most to the clients I see and it looks gorgeous on cheeks, eyes and lips. It comes in 3 shades, Watermelon, Rose and Blossom and has a matching highlighter shade which can be used to add glow to cheekbones, the bridge of your nose and cupids bow. It is a subtle highlight which just gives you that naturally lit from within glow and not a nasty strobe effect down the side of your face. I’m tagging these as a summer fave so get into Mecca and stock up now!

Drunk Elephant Slaii Makeup Melting Butter Cleanser

Ok, so my life (up until March when I may or may not have turned 40) can pretty much summed up as great with makeup, not so great with skincare. Then I discovered Drunk Elephant and my goodness me, my skincare is my makeup! I have many of the products in the range but my most recent acquisition is the Slaii Makeup Melting Butter Cleanser…. My prayers have been answered. This cleanser not only smells and feels great, it removes all traces of makeup, yes even waterproof mascara, without stripping my skin or leaving it feeling dry and tight. Like all the DE products you use a minimal amount, so they last ages, and there are zero nasties in it so my dry sensitive skin is in heaven. It also comes with a Bamboo Booster Exfoliant which when added to the cleanser (2 x weekly in the morning) leaves your skin feeling smooth, re-textured and much like what I imagine a face lift to feel like. This cleanser is for all skin types, easy to use and trust me your future self will thank you for removing that makeup before you went to bed!

So there you have it! The first installment in my new Blog series. I’d love to know what you think, so if you have any feedback or just have questions about products I love and use please get in touch here. I’d love to chat to you!
